A Stunning Chicago Landmark

This Chicago institution, which was built as the city’s first central public library in 1897 and houses the world’s largest stained glass Tiffany dome, hosts free events for both native Chicagoans and visitors alike.

In addition to the art exhibits, live dance and theater performances, lectures, film screenings and family-friendly events, you can also take part in the largest oral history project in American history with the StoryCorps recording booth. The goal is to have everyday citizens record interviews and stories with their friends and family members and have them archived in the Library of Congress.
